Wake & Shake & Bake

I read a lot of business books, and listen to the podcasts that tell me to wake up at 4 am or I’m a failure and that if I don’t live their life then I’m a loser. Ok great, got it… I’m not here to tell you how to live your life, everyone’s morning routine is different. I’ve found successes in the little things and in finding a routine.

Schedules are meant to help, not hinder. Create them with your lifestyle in mind

Chrissy Halton

I’m woken up at 6:45 every morning by my dog jumping on my face, it’s great… Feed the dog, get myself together, and grab a morning coffee then take him out for his morning constitution and catch some sun. Working in SaaS has me in front of a computer and screen all day, so I try to remove that from my morning, just me, my dog and nature-ish.

Some love to hit the gym first thing in the morning, get it over with, and it gives them an energy boost throughout the day. I completely agree it does. But lifting weights and running at 6 am does not sound appealing to me. You may be that person, and if you are, good for you. Go get it. A friend of mine likes the peace and quiet of the morning, likes the meditation capacity and the easing into the morning, I’ve adopted that.

Once I’ve returned to my desk, I first check my calendar and send our meeting reminders to my accounts and prospects for the day. I will review my personal and work to do lists to ensure I am prepared for all meetings. Reviewing any emails that came in over night, and organizing my notes for upcoming internal meetings.

I will often block off time in the morning from 9-1030 for meeting prep, as well as prospecting. Knowing who my ICP is as well as the best vertical to target, I will dig into specific accounts that I am targeting. Reading the annual reports to look for key indicators to put in a personalized email. Now I’ve got data about the company, I’ll look at their LinkedIn, through their mutual connections, posts and comment history, as well as how I can further personalize this email.

Armed and ready to go, I’ll blast through 30 personalized emails in the morning and continue on with my scheduled meetings throughout the day.

TLDR

Find a morning routine that helps you get into the swing of things, that allows you to focus on what you need to focus on, and put first things first. Stay hungry.
